Part Deux

By Toni Villafuerte

TEXT MESSAGE: Friend, Happy Valentines. BTW, Shaider and I broke up na. =.(

After I sent this message to Curly and Yuel, tears just started to roll. This time I was really crying. Minutes ago, John and I just broke up. The first 10 minutes was just quiet. I was numb. Then my phone rang. It was Curly.

“What the f*ck happened with John? Are you okay?”

“No I’m not. I’m still shaking. I had to end it na eh. And of all days siempre… F*CK!” I told her.

“OMG. Friend. I’m so sorry. What can I do?” this was Curly.

“Tara. Let’s meet up. This can’t be the day I broke up with someone on Valentine’s. Something else should happen.” me.

“Tagaytay. Meet you in 30.”

After Curly called, I started crying again. I just can’t stop. I took a shower and let the water run down my face. I thought that way, I won’t feel the tears…

I was on my way to Podium to meet up with Curly. This time, I texted Yuel about the plans and he said he’ll join us. Knowing Yuel will be with us, I felt a little better. Misery loves company I guess. Then my phone beeped.

TEXT MESSAGE: Mare, I’ll be a little late ah. Mejo traffic.

Curly lives 5 minutes away from podium but who am I to complain? She’s doing me huge favor. So I decided to entertain myself.

RADIO: “All at once… I’m drifting on a lonely sea… Wishing you’d come back to me…”

Are you freakin’ serious? Do I really need to hear this song today? Then I remembered, it’s Valentine’s. They had every excuse to play the sappiest love songs and I just have to live with it. Argh.

Just when I thought that my agony will be limited to the Whitney-Celine-Rachel Anne play list, I saw the name JOHN in almost every signage I saw. And worse, I saw John’s face in almost every guy I see. I just closed my eyes.

Tagaytay was cold that day. We ended up going to the new Starbucks beside this condo/hotel thingy. After two hours of talking about John and what went wrong, Curly said, “Tara. Casino tayo.”

And we did. Did we win? Let’s just say we had a really expensive breakfast and some shopping money the morning after. *wink*

My life was pretty much a struggle after that. It was a bit hard but I managed to move on and keep John out of my life. Good job, Toni. Good job.

Now that I’m single, my friends started to set me up with other guys. All of a sudden, FB became my survival guide.

Bachelor #1: Kito

Kito was my neighbor. His house is right in front of mine. He’s really cute and an even cuter car.

Since I moved in, we have been exchanging nothing more than polite nods. When we saw each other during a neighbor’s party, he asked for my number. Then he asked me out. Then weeks after we’ve been going out, he told me has a girlfriend but would still like to pursue our “thing”. He is cute. Really nice and educated. So I did the right thing. I let go. *sniff*

Bachelor #2: Neil

Neil was a set-up. My friend realized that since we’re both from Ateneo, things will work out. Well it didn’t. Halfway through our salads during the first date, we ran out of Ateneo things to talk about. I sensed he can’t commit.

Then I just decided to spend more time at home. I did everything to keep me busy. I feng-shuied my house. Updated my blogs and my FB account. Then my computer beeped. I got a message.

SHAIDER: “Hey…”

It was John…
